Fire around Glacier National Park

There is a fire burning on the east side of Glacier Park and at one point the Going to the Sun Road was closed halfway up. We were concerned that we might not be able to get across the park and make it to where we had a motel reserved. Well, they got the fire somewhat under control and the roads opened so we made it through. I took a couple of pictures - one of the smoke from the fire, it is taken from an overlook near Lake St. Mary, and the second of some of the devestation that the fire caused. We saw lots of charred trees and even some flames in the top of a tree, it was a terrible and sad sight.

I love your pictures and will be up there in a couple of weeks. I have searched everywhere for a way to contact you by email, but I cannot find one.

I hope you post more info about places to stay, prices, etc. PLEASE!

Lynda,

I am not sure if you will get this in time for your trip - I couldn't figure out what day you commented. We were without internet access for a week after I made my posts about Glacier. We stayed in West Glacier Motel our first night. It was clean, but old - definately not fancy. It was not bad - but I am not sure I would recommend it. We drove over Going to the Sun road and stayed in Cutbank the second night. We stayed in the Super 8 there and it was nicer than some that we have stayed in before. They had a suite with 3 queen beds and a pool and wireless access. They also provided a continental breakfast - mostly breads. They did have a waffle iron which was nice. We were limited on choices of places as most of the places I called were already booked for the nights we needed. The motel in West Glacier was $95 a night (two beds and very old and no breakfast). The motel in Cutbank was about the same for a much nicer room. Cutbank is a ways outside of the park - I think about an hour, maybe more. It costs $25 a vehicle to get into the park. Hope this helps some.
